MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - She says he was her best friend, and the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
A Magoffin County woman is mourning the death of her fiance, who police say was murdered Monday, the day before the couple was supposed to get married.
"Everything was perfect, we talked on the phone most of that day. We were so happy," Ida Fugate said.
Fugate said she was preparing for her wedding when she learned that her fiancé, 49-year-old Donnie Allen, was allegedly killed by a man she had spoken with the day before.
Donnie Allen's body was found Monday afternoon in front of his home on Route 40 in Salyersville.
Daniel Hackworth is now charged with murder.
Allen's fiancée says the two men were friends and that they had known each other for years.
She claims Allen had given Hackworth a place to stay in the days before he was shot.
Fugate says Allen was the light of her life.
"I just wish the phone would ring and he'd be on it so I could tell him how much I love him, because even though he's gone he took me with him," said Fugate.
She says she will always remember Allen as the greatest friend, father and fiancé that anyone could ask for.
Donnie Allen's funeral is expected to be held later this week.
Daniel Hackworth, the man charged with his murder, is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
