Firefighters injured in Powell County truck crash

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Three firefighters are recovering after the fire engine they were in rolled over in Clay City.

The three men are volunteers with the Clay City Fire Department. The chief of the Stanton Fire Department says the engine was responding to a call of an odor of natural gas on Hardwick's Creek Road.

A man who lives on the road saw the crash. He says the truck was going about 40 miles per hour when the driver dipped off the edge of the road and over corrected back across the road, sending the engine rolling.

Kentucky State Police say the driver, 34-year-old Eric Strange, and the other two men in the truck were flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters say when paramedics arrived all three men were out of the truck and responding to questions, but were flown to the hospital as a precaution because of the severity of the damage to the vehicle.
