Investigators are looking into what caused a fire that damaged a Lexington home.

It happened early Wednesday morning on Mentelle Park, off Richmond Road.

One of the people inside the home smelled smoke and got everyone else out.

Firefighters had to break into the back wall from the outside to put the fire out.

"It had gotten into the wall so we had to dig it out, chasing the fire to make sure it was under control," said Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz of the Lexington Fire Department.

Fire officials say there are two apartments inside the home, and the people living there won't be able to stay in the home until repairs are made.

No one was injured in the fire.
