HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) - A former police chief in northern Kentucky has been arrested and faces a federal court hearing.
The Kentucky Enquirer reports former Highland Heights police chief Carl Mullen of Fort Thomas was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Friday and jailed. The paper reports that Mullen was apparently indicted under seal on Thursday and details of the charges weren't available.
Highland Heights Mayor Greg Meyers, however, released a written statement to the paper saying officials found accounting discrepancies after Mullen retired this year and referred the matter to the FBI.
According to court documents, Mullen has a detention hearing Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Candace Smith.
It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
