Fort Campbell troops get day off for Super Bowl

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) - The commanding general of Fort Campbell, who is also a Massachusetts native, is giving his soldiers a day off on Monday so they can celebrate the Super Bowl game between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.

In a video message posted on Facebook, Maj. Gen. James McConville, of Quincy, said Monday would be a day of no scheduled activities in "recognition of your outstanding performance during multiple combat deployments."

Thousands of soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division returned to the post on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line last year from a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.

In the video, McConville slips on a Patriots baseball cap and says, "May the best team win."
