FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Frankfort Police arrested a 70-year old woman who they say was driving drunk the wrong way down Interstate 64.
Frankfort Emergency 911 received a complaint on Saturday night of a gray passenger car driving erratically on Georgetown Road. As units were responding to the area, dispatchers were giving updates on the vehicle's location.
"He would give them several points where the vehicle was crossing over onto oncoming traffic," said Major Fred Deaton with Frankfort Police.
The dispatchers advised officers that the gray vehicle had exited off of Versailles Road onto Interstate 64 traveling the wrong direction. Dispatchers then began receiving multiple calls of a vehicle traveling to wrong way on the interstate nearly striking other motorists head on.
Officer Randy Cummins observed that car going east in the west bound lane.
"He was able to accelerate ahead, get to the crossover, get in front of the traffic and drove in the center lane to prevent any vehicle from coming up behind him," Major Deaton said.
As Officer Cummins approached the vehicle traveling the wrong way he turned on his emergency equipment and got the vehicle to pull onto the shoulder of the interstate.
Officer Cummins arrested 70 year old Linda B. Claus, of Frankfort, for driving under the influence of alcohol.
"I made a mistake. I'm just glad no one was hurt," Claus said on Tuesday.
She didn't want to go on camera to discuss the arrest but she said she planned to plead guilty when she went to court.
