Franklin Drive-In misses out in contest

FRANKLIN, Ky. (AP) - A southern Kentucky drive-in theater has missed out on a contest to win a digital projection system.

Five theaters won one of the projectors previously, and another four were given out this week to theaters around the country. But the Franklin Drive-In at Franklin, Ky., wasn't among the winners.

Fans of drive-ins voted online in the program that was launched Aug. 9.

Project Drive-In was sponsored by Honda Motor Co. to help keep theaters from closing in the face of 35mm film distribution ending later this year. The Franklin Favorite says switching to digital projection is estimated to cost $75,000 or more per screen.

Several other Kentucky drive-ins were also vying in the contest but didn't make the cut, including Bourbon Drive-In in Paris, Twin Hills Drive-In in Harrodsburg, Stanford Drive-In and Tri-City Drive-In in Beaver Dam.
