WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) -

If you passed by the Rally's in Winchester Sunday, you probably saw a crowd of teenagers holding up signs. They were not there to raise money for a club or a trip. They were there to collect money to cover the funeral expenses of a friend.

"It's honestly amazing because all these kids are taking time out of their summer to just come out here and do this. It's gonna help his family a lot," says Ricky Crawford, a friend.

16-year-old, Luis Fuentes died at the hospital Thursday following a crash on Ironworks Road.

The teens know it'll be tough to say goodbye to their friend at his funeral Tuesday but they're finding some comfort in helping his family pay for it.

"We get to help out our friend that has moved on. We all feel like we've accomplished something and helped out," says Jacob Scott, a friend.

The group also set out to spread the word about the kind and compassionate person they say their friend Luis was.

"Luis was the kind of person if you were down. He would completely turn your day around. He was always there. He always knew what to say. He always made the day better," adds Scott.

The teens plan to collect money at the Winchester Walmart on Monday. They have raised more then $600 for the family so far.
