NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Thursday, July 3 marks one week since six people were killed in a crash in Jessamine County. Shaila and Steven Hibbard and their three children died when their station wagon hit a van on U.S. 27 in Nicholasville. One person in the van was also killed.
On Thursday afternoon, friends of the Hibbard family held a car wash at O'Reilly's in Nicholasville to raise money. Most of the people who took part went to the Providence School with Steven Hibbard. In addition to going to school with Steven, Brannon Lowry worked with Shaila. He says he just wants to help the family.
"If it was one of us in this situation, he would be here supporting us," says Lowry.
Organizers say money from the car wash will go toward headstones for the family.
"It's the least we could do. If it was the other way around, Stephen would help. Stephen would definitely help out his Providence family, for sure," says family friend Cindy Cook-Arnold.
"No matter what, he was always a happy person. He always had a smile on his face," says Lowry.
Sav A Lot and O'Reilly's in Nicholasville donated supplies for the car wash.
