SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - A Southern Kentucky author has designated funds for a motivational event for the children of a murdered couple.
Mike and Angela Hockensmith, along with Daniel Smith, were killed in a Danville store, and their children witnessed the violent act.
It's called a night of hope and healing to help the Hockensmith family and it will take place on Saturday, November 30 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.
Author Stephen Dowell says he came up with the idea for the event before the murders. It was going to be called A Night of Destiny which is basically a motivational speaking event.
However, he says the tragedy changed the purpose and the direction for the event.
Dowell says that all proceeds will go to help the Hockensmith family. You can buy tickets at the Center for Rural Development, Heritage Christian bookstore or Joe's pawnshop.
The event will feature several speakers including a local attorney and a cancer survivor.
