Generous banker honored by University of Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The University of Pikeville has honored eastern Kentucky banker Burlin Coleman by putting his name on the college of business.

Coleman announced a $1 million gift to the university at the same ceremony where the name change was announced this week.

Coleman spent 50 years in the banking industry and once served as chairman of the university's board of trustees where he helped to establish a medical school that turns out doctors to serve in central Appalachia.

UPIKE President James Hurley said the new Burlin Coleman College of Business will help educate the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs to help transform the Appalachian region, the state and beyond.
