GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The president of Toyota has announced that t he Georgetown Toyota plant will be building a new model of Lexus.
"This is a huge thing for the state of Kentucky," explains Kentucky State Governor, Steve Beshear, "this is going to bring hundreds of jobs and a potential for more jobs in the future. It's a huge compliment to the state that a major company, like Toyota, wants to not only continue to do business within the state, but expand their production."
The model is called the Lexus 350 ES, and is a luxury sedan. This is the first time a Lexus will be built in the United States.
Currently Toyota employs over 6,000 people. OfToyota's 350 US suppliers,110 are located in the state of Kentucky. Around 50,000 Lexus vehicles will be produced yearly which brings the plants total annual production capacity to more than 550,000 vehicles.
Former Kentucky Governor, Martha Layne Collins was on hand at the announcement. Collins is coined as being the reason for why Toyota is in Kentucky. "This is the next step, it's quite an compliment for the people of Lexus and Toyota," explains Collins, "the people in Japan to say to us you know you've done a good job,so here's some more work and good luck!"

The addition of the new model will add 750 jobs to the plant.
