LEXINGTON, Ky. - Millions of people will hit the road today to head home after a three-day weekend of traveling and visiting friends and family. The increased traffic on roadways this weekend has resulted in multiple accidents -- several of them deadly.
Already Monday morning, police investigated an injury accident on the Blue Grass Parkway, just outside of Versailles. Police told us the passengers' injuries were not life-threatening.
The early-morning wreck was the latest in a string of wrecks across Central Kentucky, and not every traveler was lucky enough to escape without serious injuries.
A man died late Sunday night, around 10:45, after crashing his car into a rock wall on Highway 421 in Jackson County. The driver was ejected and the car caught fire. Police told reporters that they saw no evidence that the driver tried to stop before hitting the wall, and the driver had not been wearing a seat belt.
There have been reports this weekend of fatal crashes in multiple counties across Kentucky, including Grant, Pike, Whitley, and Campbell.
