A Laurel County man shot a man with his gun after waking up to find intruders inside of his home. It happened just before 12:30 this afternoon at 17 Old Whitley Road.

"It all happened so fast. I don't really know what I was feeling," says Bobby Lee, a Laurel County resident.

Lee was asleep inside of his home with his two year old daughter, Zoey, by his side when he woke up to find a man in his bedroom and two other intruders inside.

This wasn't the first time that Lee's home has been broken into, " I've been burglarized before at a different home. I bought that gun sometime ago and I've practiced with it several times and run the scenario through my head of someone breaking in my house and I was just prepared."

Lee hoped he never have to put that practice to use, but when it came to the safety of his daughter, he says there was no other option.

"I keep it on top of a tall chest that she can't get to. I keep it up there unloaded. While me and the guy was staring one another down, I had time to grab my gun and load it. I put one in the chamber and was in pursuit of him," adds Lee.

After shooting one of the intruders in the chest with his pistol, the three burglars attempted to flee the scene.

"The three of them got into a Ford Explorer and was trying to flee the scene and their vehicle broke down on them, I guess. They just stopped and I told them to get out of the vehicle now and then some people that live down the road, I stopped them and asked them to call police. They did. They were trying to pay me and bribe and get out of it any way that they could. This guy was standing here shot in his shoulder. They was trying to leave and I was like you guys ain't leaving until the police gets here," says Lee.

Lee says it was a scary afternoon inside of his home and he's just thankful his little girl was unharmed, "I'm happy I protected my family. That is something you can take pride in."

All three of the accused intruders are in jail. The man shot, 31-year-old Jimmy Farmer, his brother Dudley Farmer and a woman, Leslie Hicks.
