House redistricting proposal expected Tuesday

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A House committee is expected to unveil a legislative redistricting bill on Tuesday.

House State Government Committee Chairman Brent Yonts had expected his panel to take up the measure on Monday. But the Democratic lawmaker from Greenville said the bill isn't yet ready.

Lawmakers will need to rush to get the matter resolved, considering eight days remain in the current legislative session.

Redistricting is supposed to occur every 10 years to account for population changes found by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Legislation that passed last year was struck down by the state Supreme Court. Justices found the new districts weren't balanced by population and didn't comply with the "one person, one vote" mandate in federal and state law.
