How to: Holiday shopping madness

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The rush is on to get those gifts under the tree in time for Christmas.

Many retailers, including Fayette Mall, have extended hours for the coming weekend heading into next week.

We braved the crowds to get a look at the best way to manage the last-minute holiday shopping rush.

Savvy shoppers like Doug Smith get most of their gifts ahead of time.

"My holidays have always been easy because I do several things like sell items and travel around," said Smith.

But, most of us are still rushing out last-minute to places like Fayette Mall to get those presents under the tree in time for Christmas.

"My tip is to come early," said Sarah Enlow, Regional Marketing Specialist with Fayette Mall. ”We’re open as early as 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. On Christmas Eve, we’re open at 6 a.m.”

Here's a tip: wear comfortable shoes.

The last thing you want is to be running around the mall in heels.

Also, you shouldn’t shop during peak times like the mid-afternoon if you want to avoid the long lines and crowds.

But, for shoppers like Smith, the hustle and bustle is all part of the fun.

"We are so lucky to have what we have in this country," he said. “Just give a gift from the heart.”

Fayette Mall has extended hours.

Enlow also suggest don't forget to ask for a gift receipt with each purchase.
