MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Northbound I-75 in Madison County was shut down at mile marker 89 due to a two vehicle accident Tuesday morning.

Police say just before 6:00 a.m. a woman driving a jeep left the scene of an accident in Rockcastle County. She then drove into Madison County where officers believe her jeep may have broken down.

Police say the woman abandoned the jeep on the interstate. Minutes later, another car crashed into the jeep, which caused it to catch on fire.

Richmond police say they found the woman who abandoned the jeep. She was taken to Baptist Health with minor injuries. They say she will not be charged for any crimes in Madison County, but that she will likely face charges for leaving the scene of the accident in Rockcastle County.

The woman in the second vehicle was taken to UK Hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident is still under investigation by both Rockcastle and Madison Counties.
