Kentucky man drowns after falling into Lake Barkley

CADIZ, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky man drowned after falling from a fishing pier into Lake Barkley near Cadiz over the weekend.

Trigg County Coroner John R. Vinson III told The Paducah Sun that 63-year-old Everett Pennington of Cadiz was pulled from the lake Saturday evening. Vinson classified the death as an accidental drowning.

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Gary Clark says emergency workers requested help shortly after 9 p.m. CDT Saturday about a mile north of the U.S. 68/Ky. 80 bridge at Canton.

Investigators determined that Pennington drove his golf cart to the community dock to fish. After about two hours, Pennington's wife went to look for her husband.

Pennington's wife and a neighbor eventually spotted the body floating between the dock and bank.
