LONDON, Ky. (AP) - A southern Kentucky man has seen sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting to killing his grandmother in 2011.
The Times-Tribune reported that Laurel County Circuit Judge Tom Jensen called the slaying of 74-year-old Bernice Champlin "appalling." Jensen on Friday handed down the prison term for Jeremy Owens. Owens reached a plea agreement in March in which he acknowledged killing his grandmother in July 2011.
An autopsy report states Champlin suffered several severe stab wounds, had been beaten around her face, and was ultimately shot in the head.
After the brief court appearance, Owens was remanded back into custody at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
