Firefighters release preliminary cause of restaurant fire in Cynthiana

CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WKYT) - Investigators went back to the scene of the fire at a well-known restaurant in Harrison County on Thursday to try to determine the cause of the fire.

Officials say they believe the fire at Biancke's started on the south side of the building. Investigators now say it appears the fire was electrical.

Firefighters have ruled the fire accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.

The fire broke out at Biancke's Restaurant on South Main Street in Cynthiana Wednesday afternoon.

The family-owned restaurant is typically chalk full of regular customers, many of them stopping by to sample the daily special or just coming in to catch up with friends.

But on Wednesday afternoon, a fire ripped through one section of the restaurant and firefighters say that section has suffered a total loss.

“It’s going to be a big loss to this town unless they build it back,” said Pamela Barnett, who used to work at the restaurant.

The fire didn't touch two of Biancke's three dining rooms but the owner told us that she’s still not sure when everything will reopen.

Just hours after the fire, relentless rain began to fall which slowed the cleanup process but it certainly didn’t stop dozens of dedicated friends and family members who helped speedup the cleanup process in any way possible.

“There have been a lot of people here helping me and I know the help will continue and we will get this place up and going in no time,” said Mary Todd Ashbrook, the owner of Biancke’s.

In no time, the owner also hopes their regular customers will be back, enjoying the homemade food, lively conversation, and continuing the 119-year tradition.

Biancke's Restaurant has been in business since 1894.
