LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - Home for the holidays, that's all Rodney Goodlett wanted for his soldier, Seth Goodlett.

"We had a conversation about him coming home for Christmas," said Rodney Goodlett, who went on to say his eyes were opened to a problem.

Seth Goodlett, from Anderson County, has been serving in the Army for three years. In May of 2011, he was severely injured after his vehicle rolled in Afghanistan., but he keeps on fighting and is now stationed in Colorado.

"He says it's a calling on his heart," Goodlett said of his son's service, but now Dad is fighting for something else.

"A lot of people don't realize, or they think that the military pays their way home for Christmas, Thanksgiving, a death in the family. They don't."

Seth Goodlett has the funds, others do not.

"He (Seth) made the comment 'I wish I could do something to help them, but I don't have the money, either, Dad.'"

After hearing about the need, Goodlett knew he had to do something. So he reached out to people and businesses, like Citizens Commerce Bank in Versailles, to help raise the funds.

"This just started on Monday. It's gotten very big. There's been several people that have stepped up to the forefront to help out," said Goodlett, saying it's spread to places like the Harley Davidson of Louisville are chipping in.

"I just got a message from them on the Internet, 'Hey Rodney, we like what you're doing, we're sending you a check.'"

Goodlett's son can't believe it.

"I told him to check his account yesterday, and he said "Dad, what are you up to?" I said 'Son, I'm raising money to help get some people, some of those guys home.'"

It may be a makeshift fundraiser, but it's making a difference.

On December 20th, Seth Goodlett will pull the funds together, and with his 1st Sergeant, will pass out the money to help the soldiers who can't afford the travel costs.

"It doesn't matter if it's just one, at least we'll get one home," said Goodlett who is proud to serve those who serve our country.
