LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - They say it's an example of how they don't give up when it comes to your safety. Lexington Police say of the fourteen murders in the city in 2012 they were able to solve all but one of them.

The lone unsolved murder was the shooting death of Brian Hodge, 31, at Seventh & Dakota Streets in August.

In fact Lexington continually ranks as one of the best cities nationwide for solving murders. Since 2008 the Lexington Division of Police has solved 70 of the 83 murders in the city.

"Yes, we're really fortunate here in Lexington and we're proud of that number," said Lt. Wallace Hays.

Hays attributes the high clearance rates to good police work and cooperation from the community in an effort to bring the people responsible to justice.

"We're not going to give up on these types of cases," he said.

The one homicide case yet to be solved in 2012 is the murder of 31-year-old Brian Hodge. The father of one was shot multiple times and died on the street.

"I was supposed to go first," said Jane Gill, Hodges' mother. She says it's difficult knowing her son's case is the one murder still unsolved in 2012.

"I am pleading with the community to please come forward with any information that pertains to this case," Gill said.

Few details surrounding the father of one's death have surfaced since his August murder and everyday his mother grieves for answers.

"It would be closure knowing what happened to my son," she said. "It really would, it would be closure for me. I could go into my home and I could grieve, I could grieve."

Lt. Hays says they still need help from the community to solve the murder of Brian Hodge...he went on to say investigators continue the search for his killer.
