Man shot after refusing to give suspect money, cigarettes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police were called to UK Hospital after a man was brought there with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The man told officers he was in the Trent Boulevard and Appian Way area around 1:00 Friday morning when a man asked him for money and then a cigarette. When the victim said 'no' to both requests, the man pulled out a gun and shot him.

A friend of the victim was able to drive him to the hospital. He is expected to recover.

Lexington police say they searched the area for a crime scene but haven't been able to find one.

Police describe the suspect as a black man, about 6'0", in his 30's. He was wearing a yellow sweatshirt at the time.
