LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Parents, students, and school leaders are making last-minute preparations for a new school year.

School starts Wednesday morning for Fayette County Public Schools.

"This is the exciting time, probably the most exciting time for us," said John Kiser, Director of Transportation.

He says staff completed a "dry run" Monday, making sure drivers know their routes.

Tuesday night, the school supply section at Target's Hamburg location was filled with parents completing last-minute buys.

"We still have binders we still have to purchase. We have folders we still have to get," said Shannah Johnson, a Lexington mother of two students.

Parents will admit, waiting until the last minute to shop can be stressful and expensive. Johnson has a suggestion for future last minute shoppers.

"Take the list, keep the list in your pocket, leave the children at home," Johnson said.

School officials recommend students show up ten minutes before their bus is scheduled to arrive Wednesday morning.
