High school football player killed in Lexington shooting

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - We're learning new information about a deadly shooting in Lexington.
WKYT has learned that the victim, shot at a Lexington apartment complex, is a Bryan Station High School football player.

Police tell us the shooting happened in a common area of an apartment building on Ryan circle Wednesday night. The victim was shot in the torso. It's not clear at this point what led to the shooting.

"Because it's normally quiet over here. Nothing ever happens. It is always a couple streets over, but nothing in this area," said neighbor Tamako Ingram.

The Fayette County Coroner's Office has not released the name of the victim yet, but school officials at Bryan Station say the victim is 18-year old Patrick Puckett. They say Puckett, who was a junior, was in the process of transferring to Henry Clay High School.

"This should be the time for excitement and joy for the seniors to graduate and to move onto college. It's unfortunate that their last day has been shadowed with Patrick's death," said Drew McCoy, an administrative dean at Bryan Station High School.

Police believe the shooter is a black man, about 5-8 with a thin build and short hair, last seen wearing a red shirt. So far, no arrests have been made.
