Lexington volunteers send care packages to soldiers abroad

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Soldiers overseas will soon receive special gifts, thanks to the generosity of people in the Bluegrass.

Military Missions sends care packages at least four times a year as a way to say thank you to deployed troops.

The non-profit organization was formed in Lexington eight years ago.

Tuesday night, volunteers created an assembly line, packing toiletries, snacks, and activities for those who are fighting for our freedoms.

"To me it's important because we need to give back for everything they've given to us. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have our freedom and the families are left behind, while they're deployed need our support," says Joanne Blank, Military Missions volunteer.

More than 700 packages will be shipped Wednesday, and should arrive by July 4th.
