Lexmark breaks ground on child care center

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Lexmark International has broken ground on a child care center at its Lexington headquarters with the goal of opening the facility by the fall of 2013.

Company spokeswoman Paula Anderson says helping employees with children proved to be a "big pressure point" that the center will help relieve.

The company has 2,300 workers and is one of the city's largest employers. It hopes to accommodate as many as 185 children.

The center also is expected to hold an additional 50 school-age children during the summer.

The company has contracted with Bright Horizons Family Solutions to run the center. The firm runs similar centers for Toyota in Georgetown and Yum! Brands in Louisville.

Anderson told the Lexington Herald-Leader the center may make the company a more competitive employer.
