MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Madison County grand jury has indicted a 17-year-old in the death of her infant sister.
Jessica Marcum is charged with capital murder for allegedly smothering 9-month-old Bella Rose Marcum while caring for her this summer. The baby died June 11.
The Madison County Assistant Commonwealth Attorney says Marcum was originally charged in juvenile court, but a judge moved the case to circuit court.
Kentucky State Police handled the initial investigation. They won't currently comment on the case because Marcum is still considered a juvenile. More on the investigation will become available when Marcum is officially tried as an adult. She's scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment October 17th.
The capital murder charge makes her eligible for life in prison.
