MOSCOW (AP) - Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry says that a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in the Pacific off the fareastern Kamchatka Peninsula has caused no casualties or damage.
The ministry said in a statement that the epicenter of Thursday's quake was located about 65 kilometers (35 nautical miles) east of the Kamchatka coast at a depth of 69 kilometers (43 miles). It said that the temblor was felt as a magnitude 4 in the provincial capital of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and other nearby areas.
The ministry said there was no threat of tsunami.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 6.9. Russia's seismic station in Obninsk near Moscow reported the same magnitude.
