Employees stop man accused of stealing meat from Laurel grocery store

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - Some employees of London's Save U More already had a watchful eye on Christopher Johnson, when they say he tried to get out with three packs of meat in his jacket.

Assistant Manager Daniel Osborne says Johnson eventually gave the meat up as well, but refused to surrender.

"I went to lock the door, he went out the door, pushed aside, pushing aside, I'm chasing him out the door, then fighting, grabbing and wrestling him," said Osborne of the struggle.

The struggle ended up in the parking lot where two other workers and two customers joined in.

"So I got a hold of him, he tries to bend back my fingers, I let go, a customer gave me a phone to call 911," he said.

The shoplifter took off again, until he was finally captured a third time.

"I get a hold him, put my arms around his neck, he's trying to stomp Bret's foot and kick me between the legs, I get him around the neck," said Osborne.

Osborne was able to hold him down before police came. He was arrested but not before he gave an excuse for his actions.

Osborne says Johnson says he needed the meat to feed his family but Osborne says he knows Johnson doesn't have any kids or a wife.

Osborne says he knows that, because is also a regular customer.
