Man on the run after escaping police custody in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is on the run after police say he escaped police custody in Jackson County.

State police say 28-year-old Stephen Sparks is facing charges from Clay County, for receiving stolen property.

They tell us he was being transported from Manchester to McKee yesterday when he told the officer he was feeling sick.

That's when we're told the officer pulled over in the Tyner community of Jackson County and Sparks took off running.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Paul Blanton says, "Several units were in the area attempting to locate him last night. K-9 units were also in the area and they were unsuccessful."

Police say Sparks is from the area where he escaped.

He was last seen wearing a red t shirt, blue jeans and orange handcuffs.

Police say he goes by the name Fred.

They are asking anyone with information to contact them as soon as possible.
