LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) A man had to be rushed to the hospital after a fire in a Lexington home. Investigators are now trying to figure out if it was an accident or arson.

The fire started in a home on Harris Court in the Winburn neighborhood.

Just before 6:00 Thursday night, Lexington Police were responding to a disorder on Harris Court when they had another problem on their hands --- a house down the street was on fire.

“Officers attempted to go over to the house and make contact with the person inside but that subject appeared to be uncooperative with them and wouldn’t come outside,” said Lt. Jody Stowers with Lexington Police.

Officers say they had no choice but to let firefighters handle the increasingly dangerous situation.

Firefighters say when they first got to the scene, they thought there was a victim inside but after checking several times, they realized that someone had actually jumped out the back window.

“The bulk of the blood we found was around the window and on the broken glass near the window,” said Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz with the Lexington Fire Department.

K-9 units were brought in to help search the surrounding area.

All the while, many wondered why the man ran away from his burning home.

“A lot of things could go through your mind. You get scared because of the fire. A lot of folks, especially if they're new to the country, are scared by officials so they’ll tend to run,” Chief Nantz explained.

A few hours later, police found the man injured near a fence close to the interstate but they're still not sure why he ran away.

They expect more answers to be uncovered after the arson investigator releases his report.

Officials with the Lexington Fire Department tell us the fire is still under investigation and no arrests have been made. The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
