Man kidnapped, robbed near UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kevin Williams said he was just sitting in his bedroom alone last night when a stranger came into his house and before he knew it, he was caught up in a robbery and kidnapping.

Kevin says he's always felt pretty safe at his apartment on Lafayette Avenue.

"Usually when we're in the house, it's not that big a deal to keep it unlocked," he said.

But after last night, Williams has a new reason to keep his doors locked.

"He was just peeking in. It was a guy I'd never seen before and I asked him what's going on and he told me he wanted money and then he pulled out a gun," he said.

Williams gave the man the $22 in his wallet, but he says that wasn't enough. The man put his bicycle in the trunk of Kevin's car, and at gunpoint made him drive to the Chase Bank on Euclid where he withdrew another $300.

"There were actually a couple thoughts in my head like, 'This seems like the moment where he might shoot me'," he said.

Williams said the man then made him drive to Ransom Avenue, where he got the bike out of the trunk, locked all the doors, threw Williams' keys into the trunk, and told him to walk home.

"I came back and this time, the door was locked so I couldn't get in! I went around to the other side of the house to neighbors and I said, 'Hey can I come in?' I sat down and I said, 'Would you mind calling the police for me?'," he said.

Willams is just thankful he wasn't hurt and said they'll be more careful from now on.

"I've already mentioned to the roommates to make sure the doors are locked whether we're in the house or not," said Williams.

Williams hoped to get his car back sometime Thursday. He said the man was black, in his 40s or 50s, about 5'10" with a scruffy beard. Williams said he was riding a mountain bike with grocery bags on the front.
