LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Louisville man convicted in the death of another man during a night of sex and drugs then burying the body in a basement has agreed to testify against his co-defendant in exchange for escaping a possible death sentence.
The Courier-Journal reports Joseph Banis is to receive a life sentence with eligibility for parole in 20 years under the agreement reached Monday. Banis also agreed to waive an appeal.
Banis won't be formally sentenced until after the trial of his co-defendant, Jeffrey Mundt, in May.
A Jefferson County Circuit Court jury convicted Banis Friday of complicity to murder, robbery, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a forged instrument and possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
