Man shot during apparent robbery attempt in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say there were five children inside of a home on Beulah Park when a man was shot in the leg during an apparent robbery attempt.

It happened around 3:30am Monday morning. Police say the victim, who lives on Beulah Park, told police that two men were standing outside when he arrived home.

The victim told police he confronted the two men. Police say there was a struggle and that signs of the fight are all around the side and back of the home. They say the victim was able to break free and run inside, where he was able to tell a woman inside that he was being robbed.

"There were guys waiting on the side of the fence, dressed in all black with black skull caps and they tried to, um, I guess rob him. They tried to get money from him. He tried to offer them money, He told them that he only had about a hundred dollars on him. Apparently they didn't like that," said the victim's fiance.

The victim told police that one of the men fired two shots at him, one hitting him in the leg. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say no one inside the home was hurt.
