We've seen a rash of them lately and now police say there has been an increase in car break-ins.

One of the victims says he wasn't going to let the burglars who hit his car, get away.

Today that victim, Derric Haley, shared his story with WKYT, about how he helped police stop the suspected thief.

"I was definitely running on adrenaline, I just didn't want to let them get away with it," said Haley.

It was around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday when Haley tells us he was leaving for work and noticed all of the doors to his truck were open.

"At that point, I knew I had been hit, that feeling you get when something's wrong," he said.

Haley says he hopped into his truck and drove down the road. That's when he noticed an SUV stopped at the intersection of Polo Club Blvd & Man O' War.

"I rolled down my window and asked them if they noticed anyone trying to break into cars, or steal my truck? The passenger looked at the driver and they took off," said Haley.

Running on adrenaline, Haley followed the suspects SUV down Man O' War while on the phone with police. His description of the vehicle and driver helped police make an arrest.

"Go anywhere you want, but if you come here, just know that we are going to fight back," he said.

Police arrested Dannie Leitch, 18, and charged him with Possession of Burglary Tools, Receiving Stolen Property and Unlawful Transport.

Three juveniles were also in the vehicle, however because of their ages police say they can't release any information, including possible charges they may face in connection to the burglaries.
