FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Newly elected U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie has been selected to serve on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, a plum for the tea party darling from Kentucky.

Massie also was selected Monday to serve on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and House Committee on Science, Space and Technology Committee.

An engineer educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massie said he considers it an honor to serve on those particular committees.

As of Monday, Massie was the only Kentucky congressman on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which has jurisdiction over roads, bridges, mass transit, railroads, aviation and maritime shipping.

On the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Massie will help hold the federal government accountable to taxpayers.
