McConnell calls Obama's climate change proposal a "war on coal"

The Senate's top Republican, Mitch McConnell, says President Obama's Climate Change proposals would harm the economy.

President Obama announced a proposal Tuesday that would limit carbon pollution from U.S. power plants.

Speaking on Capitol Hill at the same time as the president, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called it a huge step in the wrong direction that amounts to a war on coal.

"It creates a depression in central Appalachia, that is West Virginia and eastern Kentucky. And also since we have a number of automobile plants and a lot of auto supply plants in our state, it drives the cost of production of parts and vehicles up," said McConnell.

President Obama delivered his speech today at Georgetown University.
