Lexington mechanics concerned over recent assaults

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are searching for suspects in a pair of robberies at Lexington auto shops. News of the two attacks has some mechanics concerned.

The first happened Tuesday night at the Metro Auto Body Shop, off Georgetown Road. The victim told police a man asked him for a cigarette, then punched him in the face. The second happened Wednesday morning at a shop off East Third Street and Lewis Street. That's where a mechanic tells WKYT a man hit him over the head, and stole cash out of his wallet. Police fear the two incidents could be related. News of the events has mechanics watching out for one another.

"There's always two people here at least. There's at least three mechanics in the back here so we're never alone and we pretty much stay busy. So even when one person's under a hood working there's always somebody moving around somewhere," explains Tom Wilburn with Car Masters off Nicholasville Road.

The crew at Car Masters say, as extra safety precautions, they try to keep garage doors closed, and don't allow customers in back where mechanics work.
