LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Lexington apartment building could be turned into a shelter for the homeless, but many people living nearby aren't happy about it.
Advocates for the homeless have drafted a proposal to turn the Lorillard Lofts on Price Street into "The Wayfinder Center" which would house a homeless shelter and social services center.
Monday night a public forum was held at Leestown Middle School to give people a chance to weigh in on the proposal.
Bill Hancock supports the proposal. He says, "It's clean, safe and a place for those people right now to be honest who would have to look for an old abandoned house."
Coleman Bush is against the proposal. He says, "We are concerned with how this will affect residential neighborhoods. We have people from Masterson Station and other neighborhoods involved and we will not stop until our voice is heard."
Thos backing the proposal say they will need millions of dollars to buy the property and renovate it.
