New jobs coming to Pulaski County

SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - New jobs are coming to southern Kentucky.

Congressman Hal Rogers announced the new jobs in Somerset Tuesday morning. He says they will be high tech, high paying jobs.

People will be hired to make what's called the Faraday Cage. It's a metal container used to house the brains of the unmanned Fire Scout helicopter.

Without the cage, the helicopter components would be susceptible to lightning and electromagnetic interference. The Fire Scout is used by the Navy and in Afghanistan in providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

The people making the cages will be employed by Summitt Aviation. It's located at the Lake Cumberland Regional Airport.

After completion in Somerset, the cages will be shipped to Mississippi where they will be installed on the helicopters.
