New report highlights projects to fight obesity

Posted: Fri 3:18 PM, Jun 15, 2012

A new report details the stories of 17 school and community projects in Kentucky that organizers hope will help reduce obesity.

The Kentucky Health and Family Services Cabinet says the state is third highest in national rankings of overweight and obese children and sixth in adults.

The agency says the Partnership for a Fit Kentucky and the Shaping Kentucky's Future Collaborative released the report, "Community Guide to Reducing Obesity."

Elaine Russell of the Partnership for a Fit Kentucky and the Kentucky Department for Public Health's Obesity Prevention Program says people are working together statewide to encourage healthy eating and regular physical activity.

Locations include Hopkinsville, Louisville, Booneville, Lexington, Covington and Science Hill.

The report is available online. For more information, contact Russell at Elaine.russell(at)ky.gov or (502) 564-9358.
