NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Voters in Nicholasville, Ky., are getting a chance to change their city's governance structure in the November general election.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the Jessamine County Clerk has certified that a petition committee has more than enough valid signatures to put the issue on the Nov. 6 ballot (http://bit.ly/NpI8Hv).

Voters will now get to decide whether they will stick with the current commissioner form of government or switch to a mayor-council ward format.

Petition committee chairman Perry Barnes says the goal is to spread representation for the state's 12th largest city with 28,000 residents with the use of wards. Currently, he says, the mayor and three of the city's four commissioners all live on the west side.

Nicholasville used to have a council form of government but voters made a switch in 1927.
