WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama travels to Colorado today to step up his call for universal background checks for gun buyers and at least a vote in Congress on an assault weapons ban and limits on large-capacity ammunition magazines.

The trip comes a day after the National Rifle Association released a study that says at least one adult in every school should be armed with a gun and know how to use it.
