One killed, two injured in Barbourville crash

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision on US 25E near the intersection with Morningside Drive on Saturday.

Police said that their investigation and witness statements revealed that a red 2008 Chevrolet was struck in the driver's side when the car pulled into the path of a white 1999 Porsche, which was travelling northbound on 25E.

Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lanes of 25E. The occupants were trapped in their cars and had to be freed by the Barbourville Fire Department.

One person was killed and two people were injured in the crash. One of the injured victims was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital.

David Epperson, 74, of Knox County, passed away after being flown to the University of Tennessee Hospital.

The crash, investigation, and clean-up closed that section of US 25E for about two hours.
