Pedway construction causes Madison Co. road closure
RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Drivers in Madison County had to navigate around a major construction zone on Monday morning.
Lancaster Avenue at Barnes Mill Road in Richmond was blocked from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. while crews continued to work on a new pedway.
Once it's complete, it will connect new student apartments to the main campus of Eastern Kentucky University.
"This is a project that has stumped many university presidents for 30 years in this town," said developer Ed Worley. "They have tried many, many different options on how to navigate students across State road. This is a great resolution to it and it's sort of a public and private effort."
The pedway is expected to be finished later this year.
