DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's poet laureate is fulfilling a childhood dream by getting behind the wheel of a bookmobile in his hometown.
Frank X Walker will drive the Boyle County Public Library's bookmobile during a visit to Danville on Thursday.
Walker is visiting the Danville Montessori School. He will be reading a story to a preschool class.
Walker often talks about the positive impact of the bookmobile project, and the role public schools and libraries played in his early development as a writer.
The Kentucky Arts Council says Walker is both the youngest person to be named poet laureate in Kentucky at age 51 and the first African-American.
Bookmobiles help ensure that all Kentuckians have access to public library materials and services.
Kentucky operates more than 120 bookmobiles and outreach vehicles.
