LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A few officers remained this area, on Marietta Drive, where Sunday evening a property owner discovered a woman's body close to the dumpster behind an apartment building. investigators think she was put there by someone else.
"We can definitely tell that she was placed there by another person," stated Gary Ginn, the Fayette County Coroner.
However, little more than that is being released, and Ginn said finding more evidence will come with it's own set of challenges.
"Her body has been there for some time and is in stages of decomposition, so that will make it difficult," he added, "I think it's probably more than a day, definitely. I think the neighbors have been complaining of the odor for several days, (but) I'm not sure how many."
"The closer I got the worse you could smell it," described Kelly Flannery, who lives in the area and came to see what all of the crime scene tape was about.
"(I) Can't imagine that somebody would have that inside them to do that to somebody. It's terrible," he said.
While the body is decomposed to a point where Ginn said he cannot even determine a race, he does believe that the Monday morning autopsy will bring some details to light.
"I've got confidence that we'll be able to find a lot of good evidence and we'll be able to identify this person."
Finding the victim's identity is certainly one problem, but finding who might be behind this possible homicide is another and police will have their hands full with that.
Investigators are asking that if anyone knows of a missing female or has any other information regarding this case to call the police.
