LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A violent crash shut down a large portion of Versailles Road Saturday evening.

Police say Versailles Road outbound at New Circle to inbound at Man O' War was closed for several hours.

Lexington police tell us Randy Bates of North Carolina was traveling outbound in a Toyota Camry.

They say Bates then swerved, cutting into oncoming traffic, causing to him hit a Chevy Silverado pick-up that was driving in an inbound lane.

Samuel Raley of Meade County who was driving the pick-up was transported to UK Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was ejected from the vehicle, suffering life threatening injuries according to police.

The passenger in the Toyota was also transported to UK Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.

The preliminary investigation report shows that officials do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in this violent crash.

It is unclear what exactly caused the collision.

All lanes of traffic on Versailles Road have reopened relieving the traffic for holiday travelers.
