Bardstown authorities cracking down on violent 'gang' attacks

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - A man who claims to be a member of a gang has been arrested for menacing and terroristic threatening. He also claims to be responsible for the murder of Bardstown police officer, Jason Ellis.

"Punks. I don't know how else to describe it, just a bunch of punks," says Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin.

That's how Chief McCubbin describes a group that calls themselves the Bardstown Money Gang.

Brant Sheckles, 24, claims to be associated with the group. This is the second time in about two months that Sheckles has been arrested and made threatening comments toward police, referencing Officer Ellis' murder.

This information comes as Bardstown Police and the Nelson County Sheriff's Department say they've had enough with the Bardstown Money Gang.

"They do things as a group, not individually, rather cowardly. They've done some assaults," Chief McCubbin says.

Police say last weekend, members of the BMG went to a field party, in a field where teens and other minors hang out. Those members are accused of targeting juvenile girls and assaulting them.

"This incident is close enough to gang activity in my opinion, that I'm not calling it that, but I think that we in law enforcement and the court system need to address it now," says Nelson County Sheriff Stephen Campbell.

Arrests have been made in the most recent assault from over the weekend and police say more are possible.

Police interviewed Sheckles early in Officer Ellis' murder investigation, but didn't believe he was a 'viable suspect'.
